Farm Tractor Servicing and Repairs

Where would a farmer be without their tractor?

It’s up early in the morning and stays up late at night, herding the cows or ploughing the field. At Carr Mechanical Services we know how valuable your farm tractor is to you, and treat it accordingly.

Change and evaluate tractor oil

Newer tractors can go up to 500 hours before oil needs changing, and in some cases coolant can last up to five years. Just the same, if you use your tractor for fewer hours, you should change most fluids and filters at least once a year.

When servicing your tractor, we warm up the engine and run hydraulics for a short time to encourage drainage. We then let the engine cool so oil will be safe to handle. The oil is then changed as well as the filter. It’s important to do these at the same time.

Change the tractor filters

With proper air and fuel maintenance you will see an increase in power. If the outer air filter needs replacing we will also consider replacing the inner air filter at the same time.

Check the tractor spark plugs

In Petrol-fueled tractors we will remove the spark plugs to check for signs of improper firing, such as carbon build up, oil fouling and other possible wear and tear.

Check the tractor coolant

New coolant may not be needed each year, but we still check it and make recommendations accordingly.

Check your tractor battery

Tractor-battery maintenance and inspection is important even if no problems have been noted. We will inspect and clean terminals, measure battery voltage levels and check your charging system. If the charge level remains low, we may recommend replacing the battery or alternator.
